Dominique is an incredibly active and vibrant woman. When I first spoke to her on the phone she was training a group of women… I was amazed that she answered her phone!
What does beauty mean to you?
It’s that glow that happens when someone is truly happy. It shines from their eyes, contentment.
What makes you feel most beautiful?
Being loved, being seen by the person who loves me and basking in that.
What do you love about yourself?
My strength, my resilience.
Tell me your story
I am 48, and rediscovering myself. A mother of 4 young adults, separated by choice 5 years ago. Working as a strategist and studying to become a Paramedic. I am rediscovering my body, my life and my dreams.
What do you think was the biggest turning point in your life?
Nothing big, just a slow realization that I had the right to a happy life of dreams, if not fulfilled, at least tried to achieve. One day I was sick of feeling sad, and so I made changes.
What are you most grateful for?
Everyday I am grateful to have the chance to try and make things better; for myself, my kids, the people in my life and just generally. Even on the bad days I make sure I am grateful that I have access to the resources that allow me these freedoms to enact change.
What is the greatest accomplishment of your life?
That I never, ever give up.
What is your most treasured memory?
Holding the hand of my grandfather as he died, knowing I had been able to give back to him the care he had given me.
What advice would you give to yourself when you were a teenager?
Be brave; its okay to be scared, and its okay to fail. The scars of these will build you into an incredible woman. And when you meet this woman please remind her she said this.
What do you value most in a friendship?
Honesty and acceptance of my humanity (I am not prefect, I don;t think you are either, so its nice to lay that imperfection at the feet of someone who love you no matter what).
Please finish the statement “I am a person who…”
will chase adventure and the horizon until my last breath.
