Most photographers begin by photographing whatever is immediately around them. In my case I turned my camera to my family and practiced as much as they could put up with. At some point, I began to photograph other people.
As a portrait photographer I wanted to go back and photograph my mother.
My mother is an amazing woman. She was a loving wife and mother, a prolific playwright and quite a character. I wanted to capture and share what it was like to photograph her, to show her journey and allow her to tell her story. This experience has been transformational for both of us and something that has brought us closer together. I am so deeply grateful to be able to give her this gift.
